General introduction and background:

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the famous Jolana Rubin – made in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s-1980s, this was one of the most sought after and arguably one of the best guitars made in the Eastern Bloc. The Rubin is akin to an ES 330 or Casino, as it is a doublecut thinline guitar and completely hollow; the two pickups are more like the ones on a Strat though.

This is the version with the blade magnet pickups, offering an additional "thinned out mode" for the bridge pickup.

Please watch the video!

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately. But please read the description carefully!

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-Scale:  628mm

-Nut: ca 41 mm

-Weight: 2,88 kg

-Pickups: two original singlecoils, blade version, measuring each about 5,35K. Controlled with 4 way rotary (thinned out mode; bridge; both; neck) and a master volume + master tone poti

-Body: probably some laminated local wood like poplar;

-Neck:  slim, either beech or maple, with what could be an ebony fretboard. Small vintage frets, very flat fretboard. Trussrod controlled by a wheel at the end of the neck.

Condition:

-Body: good condition with a couple of dings and dongs, and discolourings of the binding.

-Neck: the neck is straight, frets are in ok condition with some crevasses and some minor buzz around the fretboard. Left and right of the fretboard the glue marks between the binding and neck wood have become tangible and parts of the original lacquer splintered off; everything has been smoothed out as much as possible for a really comfortable playing feeling.

-Head: very good condition, no issues.

-Hardware: minor signs of age; silver cap of tone poti knob is missing; pickguard is missing.

-Electrics: everything works

-Originality: all original except for the missing pickguard.

Sound and Playability:

-Playability and string action: The guitar is a good player, even plays easily for someone who is mostly used to modern guitars; yet may not deliver modern comfort.

-Sound: please listen to the video – the guitar offers a twangy, plunky sound with not a lot of sustain, but plenty of vintage charme.
