Rhodes Music announces the Stage 61, a fully passive 61-key tine piano that captures the signature touch, feel, and sound of a Rhodes in a compact, gig-ready design. Built for touring musicians yet equally suited for studio environments, the Stage 61 is the latest addition to Rhodes' legacy of handcrafted instruments, following the flagship MK8 piano in 2021. The Stage 61 simplifies the Rhodes experience, returning to a stripped-down, classic design inspired by the original Rhodes pianos of the '60s, '70s, and early '80s.

This sound has become synonymous with the '70s and beyond, forever linked with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea, and Herbie Hancock — and the Stage 61 brings that same legendary character to the modern gigging musician in the most portable Rhodes package ever made.

Key elements of its design:

• Kluge Klaviaturen Keybed The premium 61-note C–C keyboard is manufactured by Kluge Klaviaturen GmbH, a German company and part of the Steinway Group. The keys are crafted from spruce, complemented by an oak and beech key frame. The weighting and action is nothing short of sublime — the keys are well balanced, providing a degree of resistance with a very fast return, perfect for fast vamps or melodic phrases.
• MK8-Grade Electro-Mechanical Components The tines, pickups, hammer tips, and cable-driven sustain pedal are taken directly from the MK8. Rhodes custom high-impact ABS hammers and combs feature quad-zone hard-wearing tips, aerospace-grade damper combs, and black natural wool damper felts, while the precision steel tines and tonebars are mounted on sustainably sourced Baltic birch tine and pickup rails.
• Custom Alnico Pickups Rhodes custom precision-wound alnico pickups feature anti-slip adjustment for accurate voicing and flat-ended pickup heads for precise volume adjustment. Each tine is positioned next to an electromagnetic pickup, which generates a minuscule electrical signal — akin to how an electric guitar operates — resulting in a beautifully rich and lush tone.
• Fully Passive Circuit With passive circuitry, volume, and legacy tone control, the Stage 61 requires no power. Simply plug into your favourite amplifier or audio interface via the jack output and play. This design closely resembles the original Rhodes models, ensuring the instrument retains its natural timbre.
• Compact & Road-Ready Build At around 26 kg / 59 lbs, the Stage 61 is notably lighter than the MK8 (34 kg / 75 lbs), making it easier to transport for live performances or studio work. The instrument is housed in a Tolex-covered wooden case with a matte-black ABS lid, providing durability for transport and protection during use.
