The James Tyler JTG M1 is a powerful and refined solidbody electric guitar, inspired by the renowned James Tyler Mongoose. Built with an eye toward boutique quality, timeless design, and tonal authority, the M1 combines bold, muscular tones with expert craftsmanship to deliver an instrument that’s as versatile as it is visually striking.
The body of the M1 is crafted from a lightweight, resonant 2-piece Okoume back, topped with a 2-piece hard maple cap—a classic tonewood pairing known for its warm low-end response and crisp, articulate highs. The body is elegantly finished with scraped binding, revealing the natural maple edge for a sharp, boutique aesthetic that visually separates the top from the back in striking fashion. This rear-routed design keeps the top clean and sleek, further emphasizing the M1’s minimalist, refined vibe.
The neck is carved from solid Okoume, paired with a dark Indian rosewood fretboard and accented by a maple binding—a detail that adds both visual elegance and a smooth fret-hand feel. Following Tyler’s sought-after STD 59 neck profile, the neck measures .850" at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th, offering a familiar, full carve that strikes a balance between vintage heft and modern comfort. A 9.5” radius and a 42mm bone nut ensure effortless playability across the fretboard, while Jescar 51100 frets (.100” x .051”) provide durability, smooth bending, and consistent action. White mother of pearl inlays add a touch of class to the fingerboard, complemented by high-visibility Luminlay side dots—ideal for dark stage environments.
Tonal muscle comes from a dual humbucker configuration: a JTG Retro in the neck for warm, vintage-inspired textures, and a JTG Super in the bridge for aggressive, harmonically rich output that excels in both rhythm and lead contexts. This pairing delivers a wide tonal spectrum—from clean and creamy to punchy and overdriven—controlled via a classic 3-way toggle switch and two CTS volume and two tone pots, all wired with 500K pots to preserve clarity and brightness across all settings.
The hardware setup is designed with professional performance in mind. JTG locking tuners provide tuning stability and fast string changes, while dome knobs keep the look streamlined and functional. The guitar comes strung with D’Addario 10–46 strings, optimized for balanced tension and tone straight from the case.
