here's is a very custom Leslie Speaker. it is only 30" tall. I will post a video of this later. you can see some of my past work at what I call Super Short Leslie Speaker on YouTube. just type it in. please sit back for a few minutes and I'll tell you all about it
this speaker was a 251 which I've cut down from app 40" to it's current height of 30". and it's a lot of work. the speaker needed refinishing anyhow, and the reason I cut them down is two fold, first 251 as great a speaker they are simply do not sell. second, I've been building short Leslies and chopped Hammond M3s for working class musicians. if you're in a touring band with a trailer or just a big van you'll appreciate the extra room that a smaller Leslie will save you.
as for this speaker, I've used a good Jensen V21 driver, it's just a classic driver that sounds good, no buzzing. I've used a brand new Eminence 15B speaker, they sound good with lots of good bass. I've used the 251 amp, completely disconnected the second channel, rebuilt the amp, .new Orange Drop capacitors, put in a brand new can capacitor, brand new Tung Sol 6550 tubes. the preamp tube is a really strong vintage Sylvania. both two speed motors have been gone through, oiled, cleaned ect. all other bearing in the Leslie were cleaned and oiled as well.
I did the best I could on refinishing this. It has two coats of oil paint. It looks pretty good but not perfect by any means.I did sand it down to bare wood so it's a good strong finish
what made this speaker such a big project was the removal of the original bass rotor and I used a smaller rotor such is found in a 125 speaker, this saves app 3", this was a lot of work believe me, including machining a spindle to the correct length, basically cutting out a complete louver, and re installing the bottom. and it sounds great believe me. I've also cut out the 6x9 speaker that are original to the 251.
the wooden isolation box would not fit so I make these isolation foam that you can see on the upper motor, these work very well if you're recording and want to separate the highs from the lows with two mikes.
for shipping I'm giving you the highest price I expect it to cost to get it to a warehouse in your area, to deliver it to your front door will cost app $80 more, please note here if you want to buy it now and pay the total shipping I will reimburse you if the shipping is less, however if you're in New York or beyond this could cost a little more so please be ready to pay a little more for shipping if you're that far away. you can also contact me about shipping I can usually get a quote in around 3 hours.
and last, if you coming to Los Angeles and want to stop by my shop please do. I'm very close to downtown and about 30-45 minutes from Hollywood (LA traffic ya know) so please stop on by
