Laney Klipp  Supergroup

100 watts of roaring, classic British guitar tone! Laney were an underdog in British amps of the late 60’s and 70’s but made some of the coolest gear around. If you think Black Sabbath were using cranked up Marshalls in the early 70’s, think again – Laney was based in Sabbath’s home town of Birmingham, and actually worked with the band on developing their range of amps.

The Klipp line came out in 1973 with the same basic design as the Supergroups that preceded them, but with an added treble boost, AND the legendary “Klipp” circuit on channel 2 – a tube-driven overdrive with some nasty fuzz to it. These amps have two discrete channels that share one eq section. Either channel will saturate nicely when cranked (as on most classic guitar amps of this era, there’s no master volume) so turn it up til it gets thick, creamy overdrive, then hit the Klipp switch to take it over the top. If you’re looking for that dark, brooding Tony Iommi tone, put the gain, middle, treble and presence at 10, the bass control at 0, use the bridge pickup on your guitar with the tone knob turned down, and there it is. Hit the Klipp switch to get fuzz for daaaaaaze, if desired!

This Klipp is in perfect working condition, and nice physical condition – it’s been played, but never abused. The much-coveted original transformers are there, along with all the original mustard caps. All electrolytics have been replaced so you can jam it hard without fear of losing those transformers! Everything besides the electrolytics is all original. This plays like a dream – warm, roaring, thick British EL34 tone for miles, and oozing with 70’s cool.
