Amek Pure Path Channel in a Box (CIB) Pair (2 Units) Designed by Rupert Neve
I am selling two units of Amek Channel In A Box from my personal collection. They have been in my private, climate-controlled, smoke-free studio, and I have taken care of them meticulously. Technically, they are pristine. My technician recently checked them, and they work perfectly; they do not need capacitor replacement (recapping) or any type of maintenance. Esthetically, they have some minor marks from normal rack use, but they are in excellent condition and ready to work from day one.
The Amek CIB, designed by Rupert Neve, is a key piece in my studio because it sounds incredible. Without over-coloring, it has a creamy and very musical character.
Each unit features two completely independent inputs (one mic and one line), each with its own input gain control and dedicated output potentiometer. This allows you to have two different sources connected and process them at the same time. Furthermore, the EQ and compressor sections can be independently assigned to either the mic or line path, offering total routing flexibility.
The mic input uses TLA (Transformer-Like Amplifier) architecture, the topology designed by Rupert Neve to achieve ultra-clean, fast gain with plenty of headroom, maintaining classic analog texture. For its part, the line input is balanced by a dedicated transformer.
The equalization section is a marvel. It is a fully parametric 4-band EQ. The high and low frequency bands include Glow and Sheen modes: subtle harmonic saturation circuits that work along the lines of the Red and Blue Silk controls on modern Rupert Neve units. Glow adds body and warmth to the low end, while Sheen provides air and openness to the high end with a very silky touch. The Q factor control allows adjustments from narrow, surgical curves to very wide, musical bandwidths. It is rounded out by two fully parametric mid-bands and independent high-pass and low-pass filters.
The VCA compressor/limiter is very precise and musical, with an external sidechain input. In addition, the integrated filters can be sent to the sidechain chain to precisely control which frequencies trigger compression. It goes from fully transparent dynamics control to a response with plenty of punch, so it works equally well on individual tracks or on a stereo bus.
From the factory, the compressor is placed before the equalizer. To change the order and place the EQ before the compressor, you just have to connect the mic output (Mic Output) directly to the line input (Line Input) with a patch cable and activate the line buttons (Line) on the front panel for the EQ and filters. By making this patch, the signal goes through the mic TLA stage and three physical transformers in series (Mic Out, Line In, and Line Out). That extra pass through the iron gives it tremendous analog body, density, and depth that is well worth it.
Not all buyers leave feedback (it is optional), so my review history does not reflect the total gear I have sold. Here are some recent sales of my studio gear for reference:
