Marcinkiewicz Vermeer Model, early production. A trumpet that strongly carries Joe Marcinkiewicz's own handwork.
[SPEC]
Model: Vermeer Three
Bell: 127mm / Three, yellow brass
Bell taper: Medium
Bell bead: 5 inch
Bore: .459" / ML
Leadpipe: #5 (.345")
Finish: Gold plated
Weight: 1033g (measured)
Year: Late 1980s
Accessories: none (instrument only; no case included)
[Condition]
The angled brace mount connecting the bell and mouthpipe had come unsoldered and has been re-soldered. Gold plating on the engraved bell section and valve casing top caps has thinned from wear, slightly exposing the underlying silver plating. Small shallow dent on the bell flare, repaired. Otherwise only light scuffs and polishing marks here and there; kept in clean condition. Interior cleaned, soft parts replaced, and serviced/adjusted throughout.
[Features]
An early production instrument from the late 1980s, shortly after Joe Marcinkiewicz began building trumpets. Marcinkiewicz worked in brass repair from 1965, studied mouthpiece design under master craftsman Bert Herrick in 1973, and began full-scale mouthpiece production in 1983. This is a valuable handmade trumpet from the period when Joe himself, with all that experience, was at the center of production.
The Vermeer has a classical design inspired by legendary vintage horns, with a slightly tighter, more compact blowing feel than the company's Rembrandt. The Three is a standard bell known for its balance, keeping a clear, focused sound while also offering spread and warmth. The medium taper and 5-inch bell provide excellent projection, suited to anything from big band to concert band.
This is the Three ML spec, pairing the .459" ML bore with the original-design #5 leadpipe. The #5 pipe is an all-round design that retains moderate resistance while aiming for even, clean response throughout the range. Bright, lustrous tone with good focus, and a balanced feel where the sound opens up naturally as you put air in.
There is a solder repair on the bell-to-mouthpipe brace and some partial thinning of the gold plating, but condition is good for its age. A piece from the era when the brand was still young and Joe's own handwork was strongly present: a highly refined, practical Vermeer Three that also offers the pleasure of owning an "early Marcinkiewicz."
