YAMAHA 1971 FG-2000, a first-year example of Yamaha's high-end handmade FG line.
In 1971 Yamaha brought in Terry Nakamoto, an essential figure in the history of Japanese folk music, and entered a new era. That same year, with the FG's popularity firmly established, Yamaha announced its "high-end handmade FG" lineup: the FG-1500, FG-2000, and FG-2500 (12-string), which went on to make Yamaha acoustics known worldwide.
Built by Japan's top craftsmen with the momentum of the red-label era, it retains the red-label-era bridge design and the early Yamaha headstock with its V-shaped tip.
Players who know the raw character of the FG-180 may be surprised. Dig in and it gets aggressive, but played gently it keeps its open, sparkling quality as the sound projects forward. The lows are rich and soft yet focused. Half a century on, the exterior remains beautiful and playing condition is good.
