About this listing
I’m selling my Silvertone Model 1471 from the early 1960s.Silvertone was Sears’ house brand in the US, and many of their guitar amplifiers from this era were built by Danelectro. Today, these amps have developed a distinctive reputation among vintage gear enthusiasts. The 1471 was only produced for a relatively short period and was the predecessor to the better-known 1481.Technically, it’s refreshingly simple: around 5 watts, an 8-inch speaker, a 12AX7 in the preamp, a single 6V6 power tube, and 6X4 rectification. Volume and Tone – that’s it.For me, that simplicity is a big part of the appeal of old tube amps. The amp responds very directly to your picking dynamics, pickups, and the guitar’s volume control. Clean, it sounds warm and open; turned up, it delivers that classic smooth 6V6 breakup with a lovely natural compression. The 5 watts shouldn’t be underestimated, either. For its size, the Silvertone is surprisingly loud. At the same time, that’s exactly where it has an advantage over larger vintage amps: you can actually push the power section without immediately ending up at completely impractical volume levels. It’s a very useful power range for home use, recording, or smaller rehearsal spaces. The amp is in excellent technical condition. The mains/power side has been appropriately updated for modern use. The tubes are no longer original, but it is fitted with high-quality TAD tubes. Sonically, it works exactly the way I want a small vintage single-ended amp to sound.Cosmetically, it naturally shows signs of use and has a few marks and imperfections. After more than 60 years, I consider that part of the character of a vintage amp, and it does not affect its function, value, or charm.I’m only selling it because I hardly play guitar at home anymore. Most of my guitar playing now happens in the rehearsal room, where I use a larger Fender amp. As a result, the Silvertone unfortunately spends more time sitting around than being played.
