The ES-335 has captivated legends from Larry Carlton to Lee Ritenour to Eric Clapton, reigning as the definitive semi-hollow electric guitar. 1965 was a pivotal transition year: the headstock angle changed to 14 degrees, and the guitar adopted a narrower neck profile with block position markers.

This example carries the specification every Clapton fan dreams of - a Cherry-finish 335 modified from a trapeze tailpiece to a stop tailpiece. That change brings the taut string tension and superb sustain that Clapton's own sound is famous for.

Now more than 60 years old, this instrument has matured into something truly special. It's fitted with two original stickered, numbered PAF pickups - a set whose market value has climbed sharply in recent years - combining historic significance with real, usable tone. This is a 1965 Gibson ES-335TD Stop Tailpiece Mod in Cherry, packed with detail that few instruments can match.

At its heart are two original stickered, numbered PAF pickups, prized in today's vintage market. They deliver a thick, well-defined core tone with plenty of clarity - the sound never falls apart even when the amp is pushed hard, and rolling back the volume reveals rich, complex overtones.

Just like Clapton's own guitar, this one has been modified from a trapeze to a stop tailpiece. String vibration now transfers directly into the center block, dramatically improving both sustain length and attack.

The 14-degree headstock angle and narrow neck typical of 1965 production are here, along with the block position markers that give the fingerboard a more refined look. The neck's grip sits perfectly in the hand, with a comfortable tension that makes fast fingering effortless.

A tone that combines the warmth of an acoustic with the strength of a solid body - over 60 years, the body wood has dried out completely. Strum a chord and the sound fills the room the way a great acoustic does, while lead lines unleash a thick, sharp distortion that rivals a solid-body electric.
