Up for sale is a vintage 1970s Gretsch Progressive Jazz 3-piece drum kit in a classic Rosewood Lacquer finish. Based on the serial numbers, this is a "born together" factory matched shell pack with incredible mojo and that legendary "Great Gretsch Sound."Shell Dimensions:
- Bass Drum: 20" x 14"
- Rack Tom: 12" x 8"
- Floor Tom: 14" x 14"
Condition & Aesthetics:
- Finish: The Rosewood Lacquer finish has a beautiful, aged character. Please note that the finish is heavily faded and checked on the bass drum shell. The rack tom and floor tom are in much better cosmetic shape. I chose to leave the finish completely original to preserve its vintage soul and mojo, though it could be a great candidate for sanding and re-staining if desired.
- Hardware & Edges: Structurally excellent. There are no extra holes drilled into the shells. The bearing edges are fine and in great shape, allowing the drums to tune up easily and sound absolutely phenomenal.
- Originality: I believe the floor tom legs are non-original, but everything else looks to be fully original. Remarkably, the kit still features its original factory heads on both the bass drum and the floor tom!
Sound & Versatility:
Don't let the "Jazz" name fool you—this is a highly versatile, workhorse kit perfect for any musical style. It delivers a rich, warm tone and is the ideal vintage player's kit that you can confidently take out on gigs without worrying about keeping it in a museum.
