Fine 3/4 German–Italian Double Bass (circa 1800 or earlier)

Offered for sale is a beautiful 3/4-size German–Italian double bass with a distinctive swell back and exquisite purfling. Based on its construction and stylistic characteristics, it is believed to have been made in the border region between Germany and Italy around 1800, possibly earlier.

This is a professional-grade instrument with a mature, powerful, and well-balanced sound across all strings. It responds easily, projects exceptionally well, and is remarkably comfortable to play. The bass has the depth and character expected from a fine old European instrument, making it suitable for orchestral, solo, jazz, and chamber music performance.

The instrument underwent a full restoration in London and has been maintained to a high professional standard. Most recently, setup work was carried out by renowned luthier Malcolm Healey, including fingerboard dressing, bridge work, and a complete professional setup.
