In the late 1980s, the guitar world was a different place: vintage models weren’t in vogue, and everyone wanted a fast Superstrat in the style of the Ibanez RG or the trendy models from Charvel and Jackson. Back then, this Fender HM Strat was the traditional manufacturer’s answer to the industry’s “metal-oriented” bestsellers. Charvel/Jackson is now part of the Fender Group, and the HM remains a highly professional and quintessential guitar model of that era.

Year of manufacture: 1989. This is an American-Japanese collaboration. The components come from Japan (FujiGen factory) but were assembled in the USA, which is why the headstock bears the “Made in USA” label.

The body is made of alder in a stylish “Flash Pink” finish. Compared to the standard Stratocaster, it has a slightly more ergonomic cut with better access to the higher frets.

Maple neck (“Slim C” profile) with rosewood fingerboard (17" radius), 24 jumbo frets, and Gotoh tuners.

Equipped with a DiMarzio Super 3 humbucker in the bridge position and two Fender American Standard single-coil pickups at the neck and in the middle.

The wiring also differs slightly from the USA Standard: a five-way switch and a small mini-toggle switch for splitting the humbucker. One volume and two tone pots with TBX tone control (Treble Bass Expander), which slightly boosts treble and bass starting from the middle position.

A Kahler Spyder Spyder Locking Tremolo (Floyd Rose Licensed) ensures reliable tuning stability.
