National Scheerhorn Figured Maple Roundneck 2019

Unique Scheerhorn Figured Maple resonator guitar in the roundneck version. The instrument was built by National Reso-Phonic Guitars in San Luis Obispo, California, under license from luthier Tim Scheerhorn, who introduced many well-received innovations to resonator guitars in the late 1980s and early 1990s, setting new standards for their design.

The main differences from classic Dobro guitars are: an L-body with a larger air chamber, the use of solid wood only (no laminates), and an open sound chamber (without a soundwell, but with a system of carefully designed baffles and posts). These solutions, together with hand-made cones, create a more modern sound that is less metallic than in traditional Dobro-style guitars. This type of guitar has a less aggressive character, is much easier for players who aren’t resonator specialists, and fits well in contemporary music. The roundneck version, made for standard playing position, makes the instrument fully universal for acoustic guitarists who play beyond strict lap-style or old-school blues, while still keeping that unmistakable resonator vibe.

The guitar looks amazing. The figured maple, beautiful chrome hardware, ebony fingerboard and striped binding make it a luxurious, top-tier instrument. It’s one of the most striking guitars we’ve ever had in our shop, and it’s a real pleasure to offer something like this.

The guitar was made in 2019. Its visual and technical condition is excellent and of course fully functional.

Included is a high-quality original hard case and the manufacturer’s documents. The guitar weighs only 2.85 kg.

A new one costs around $4500 and is almost impossible to get in Europe.
