One of a kind 2018 RLG Red Layer Guitars Custom made in Amsterdam Multi-scale 27.7”-29.4” Juggernaut Baritone 8 string graphtech ghost Piezo saddles/preamp Lundgren M8 Alex Grey Inspired Inlay Hiscox Tool Djent Meshuggah

Custom 1 of a kind, Red Layer Guitars Juggernaut multi-scale 8 string guitar/bass. Absolutely insane custom build I commissioned a few years ago when Jort was still taking custom orders, he has since stopped. This was a passion project and has all kinds of incredible features, Lundgren custom multiscale M8 pickup set, a 27.7-29.4” multiscale, 24 stainless steel frets, hipshot open gear tuners, hipshot bridge with graphtech piezo saddles and ghost preamp for acoustic sounds. Originally the top was painted to try to tie the wood grain into the Alex Grey Bardo being painting but I decided my ADHD got the best of me with that decision and had the stain removed and a thin layer of nitro applied to let the top speak for itself, which is an absolute stunning bookmatched English walnut top. The back which is almost as good as the front is a 2 piece black limba body, with incredible sap wood showing throughout. The neck is a a custom carved (see photo of what I asked for in a drawing / cross-section when originally commissioning, Jort delivered perfectly, the neck is a dream) 5 piece wenge/maple asymmetrical shaped, almost .strandberg-esque but not as hardlined, more rolled edges feeling into a chunky almost baseball bat volute. Macassar ebony fretboard, lumin-lay side dots. And last but not least the unbelievably accurate recreation of Alex Grey’s “Flaming Eye” Inlay which many people think is the ”Lateralus Eye” but it is not, This was taken from Alex Grey’s original Blessing Hand painting. It all started because I was immediately reminded of the Bardo Being from the looks of the walnut grain and away we went with the Alex Grey theme. The 2nd to last photo is what the original coloring on the top was like. The last photo is just a shot at Jort’s “wall of art” other work of his at the time, ca. Nov. 2018.

Not really looking to sell but if someone wants this 1 of a kind piece of art that Jort is known for making then here is your chance, as I’m playing bass more now and am selling some things to fund that side of things now. Comes with the UK made Hiscox case (no longer being made), with a custom foam insert I made. String mute seen in photos is included. Currently strung with Stringjoy custom set .095-13-17-30-40-54-74-95xl and tuned to EADGCFAD, so you essentially have a standard EADG bass on your bottom 4 strings and/or a 1 step down tuned 6/7/8 string guitar. The open electronics spot is for either a magnetic pickup tone pot, a killswitch or a mini toggle for coil splitting I just haven’t decided what I want to do with it yet since redoing the original wiring which needed to be done because of a technical oversight from Jort, but is no longer an issue.
