Masu(æž¡), a traditional Japanese sake vessel, has been converted into a microphone.A microphone is built into the inside of the body to capture the sound echoed inside the wooden sake vessel and output via a high-impedance 1/4 inch output jack.

Masu is one of the traditional wooden sake vessels used in Japan and is used for pouring sake as well as for traditional events and celebrations.Due to the historical aspect of Masu, there are various sizes and shapes of Masu, and also there are various types of Masu with traditional Japanese designs, such as those decorated with gorgeous maki-e lacquer, which are used for New Year's celebrations.

We collected these vintage Masu and rebuilt them as microphones, decorating each one with a special design using Japanese traditional patterned cloth. The sound changes depending on the shape of the Masu and the material of the wood, as it picks up the internal resonance of the wooden body. We hope you will find one just for you!

Due to its high-impedance, low-level output, we recommend using it with loud instruments such as drums or amps etc. It can be transformed into an incredible LoFi effect mic by connecting effect pedals, or used as a noise box by tapping directly on the body! Please find your own unique way to use it.

We have created a video of a test use. For more information, please see the demonstration video.
