A vintage classic Ampex 601 valve / tube microphone preamp. I bought this 14 years ago at which point it was serviced by an ex beeb tech and given a clean bill of health. It’s always worked faultlessly aside from the meter needle which sometimes sticks. Soundwise it’s as you’d expect - absolutely gorgeous with tons of gain. It obviously imparts colour to your mic signal - but it’s a beautiful colour that just makes everything sound better. This thing isn’t just for jazz, blues or rock vocals - it’s lovely on classical instruments (seems to dissolve any harshness) and really good on electric guitars and bass - especially if you push it into saturation - sublime!
So - working as it should - I kept it on a high shelf and only turned it on when it needed to be used. It runs on 110 volts but I can include a 240 volt supply for an extra £25.
I have some audio examples if you need them.
Extremely rare to find one of these outside the USofA - so gitcha some of the real deal!
