2×12 Speaker Columns – Pair – 1973 – Celestion G12S 20W

A fantastic matching pair of 1973 WEM 2×12 speaker columns, loaded with period Celestion G12S 20-watt speakersand retaining their original WEM-branded protective covers.

A great piece of early-'70s British amplification history, these tall-format WEM columns were designed for PA and instrument use and offer a very different character and appearance to the more familiar Marshall-style cabinets of the period.

Each column is fitted with two Celestion G12S 12" speakers, giving four vintage Celestions across the pair. The G12S has a lighter magnet assembly than the more familiar G12M and has its own distinctive response — lively, articulate and particularly well suited to vintage guitar and PA applications.

Switchable Horn

Each cabinet also incorporates a switchable high-frequency horn, allowing the upper-frequency response to be brought in or out depending on the application.

This makes the pair an interesting option not only for a period-correct vintage PA setup, but also for guitar, keyboards or anyone looking for something rather more unusual than a conventional 4×12.

Condition

Both columns are in very good condition for their age, presenting exceptionally well for equipment dating from 1973.

Even more unusually, the pair retains its original WEM-branded protective covers, which are in superb, virtually perfect condition. Original covers are so often lost, damaged or discarded over the decades, so having both surviving with the pair is a particularly nice detail.
