Here's a great-playing and sounding Gibson A-4, from 1929! Great for bluegrass or old-time. Just like the mandolin Carl Jones plays, but without the finger rest. It has a truss rod, so the neck is as true as the day it came from the factory. The finish has a lovely crackled patina, with that classic sunburst. I think the bridge is original, but it has failed at some point and been glued. I'm including a new, quality bridge in case it should fail in the future. All joints are sound, no cracks or repairs that I can find. There is one place near the endpin where the side has pulled away from the back (see picture). I believe it is sound and has only pulled away from the back as it shrank over time, but it is still glued to the lining. It hasn't opened up any more in the time I've had it, and I've put hide glue into the joint to help stabilize it.
The tuners are new, correct style. It had newer (1960s) tuners on it when I got it, and they just didn't look right. The case is original and in pretty good condition. This mandolin is going to make someone very happy!
