The LP Matador series has been a working percussionist's entry point into professional-quality Latin percussion for decades — built from Siam Oak shells with natural rawhide heads, traditional rims, and hardware that holds up to regular gigging. Siam Oak is a tonewood well suited to bongos: it produces a warm, focused, articulate tone with a sharp, cutting macho (the smaller drum) and a full, resonant hembra (the larger drum) that blend together naturally and project clearly in a band or ensemble context. The Matador builds on that foundation with 5/16" diameter tuning lugs, steel backing plates, and plated cast aluminum bottoms — a construction spec that punches above its price point.
The dark cherry stain with chrome hardware is a clean, classic look — rich color in the wood grain with understated hardware that doesn't distract. The 7-1/4" and 8-5/8" shell sizes are the standard Matador configuration, covering the full tonal range of the instrument effectively. The LP Aspire bongo stand keeps the set at the right playing height for seated or standing use and holds the drums securely without damping the shell resonance.
