The Yamaha VSS-100, made in Japan, is a unique and portable 49-key synthesizer sampler keyboard. Renowned for its creative sampling capabilities, it is an excellent choice for musicians seeking a fun and versatile instrument. Key features include:
- 21 Preset Voices: includes classic FM-style sounds, enhanced with optional sustain and vibrato effects for added expression.
- 12 FM rhythms: built-in rhythm patterns featuring FM-generated drum sounds to accompany your playing.
- Accompaniment and Auto Bass Chord: provides full auto-accompaniment with bass and chord backing to enrich your performances.
- Advanced Sampling capabilities:
- Sampling can be done across the full keyboard for melodic playback
- Alternatively, up to four separate samples can be assigned across four octaves.
- Pitch adjustment allows for even greater sound design flexibility.
Creative sequencing: unlike the later VSS-200 (popularized by Sigur Rós), the VSS-100 allows sequencing of up to four samples in sync with the internal rhythm section. You can even mute the rhythm sound to create quantized sample-based sequences — an exceptionally expressive feature unavailable on the VSS-200.
Furthermore, while the VSS-200 offers more hands-on sound manipulation, its sampling range covers only about two octaves. The VSS-100, by contrast, lets you play your samples across the full 49-key keyboard, providing far greater melodic flexibility.
Condition and functionality
This Yamaha VSS-100 is in good overall condition and works perfectly, with no functional issues. All keys, buttons, and features have been tested and are fully operational. While no original box or power adapter is included, it is ready to use with six C-type batteries (not included). A printed English manual is also provided for your convenience.
