1964 is arguably the most popular year for vintage Gibson guitars after 1959—Short Magnet PAF with a PAT sticker, a medium C neck profile that’s to die for, a 43mm nut width, and the consistently high build quality typical of the pre-Norlin era.

No wonder Eric Clapton’s 1964 ES-335 was so iconic. And that’s exactly why the previous owner of this beautiful ES-345TDSV chose the same model year in the same cherry red finish.

The guitar has been played extensively, which is evident from its appearance. A clear sticker was applied to the back to prevent buckle rash. Since we can’t estimate how long this sticker has been there, we’ve decided not to remove it. The risk that the thin nitrocellulose lacquer underneath has already been damaged is simply too great.

Furthermore, it has been refretted, fitted with new Kluson tuners, the wiring has been converted to mono, and the pots are from 1979. The pot knobs are also not original.

In other words: Everything that positively contributes to playability has already been taken care of. Everything that contributes to the sound is original:

- No breaks or repairs

- 43mm nut width

- Neck: unopened Short Magnet PAF without a PAT sticker, rated at 7.14 kOhm

- Bridge: unopened Short Magnet PAF with a PAT sticker, rated at 7.38 kOhm

- Factory Bigsby

- Factory “Custom” truss rod cover

- PAT Number Bridge

- Original pickguard

- Weight: 4,13 kg

It’s clear that at some point in the past, it was fitted with a second pickguard on the top or played by a left-hander. You can still see the two small drill holes.

Anyone who’s ever played a guitar with PAF pickups understands the hype surrounding this holy grail of guitar pickups. We’ve never heard such a dynamic and assertive sound anywhere else. Paired with the neck profile, this ES practically plays itself. And best of all: thanks to the signs of wear on one hand, and the many original parts on the other, this guitar is equally appealing as both an investment and a player’s guitar.
