About this listing
I am offering here a Gibson Custom Shop Memphis 1959 ES-330 Tamio Okuda Signature from 2017, a still crafted in Memphis, Tennessee (USA), hollowbody signature model for the Japanese songwriter and producer Tamio Okuda, featuring top, back and sides made of maple/poplar/maple laminate, set mahogany neck with Traditional “C” neck profile and 43.4mm nylon nut, bound rosewood fingerboard with celluloid dot inlays, two tonally versatile Gibson MHS P90 singlecoil pickups, Gibson No Wire ABR bridge with Bigsby B-7 tremolo and Kluson Deluxe White Oval Button tuners in a brilliant Classic White high-gloss nitro finish in excellent collector’s condition, including black Gibson Tamio Okuda luxury hardshell case, manufacturer’s paperwork and professional setup with 10-46 Elixir Optiweb strings.Since its introduction in 1959, the Gibson ES-330 has been one of the most distinctive hollowbody electric guitars in American guitar history. Unlike the ES-335, it features a fully hollow body without a solid center block, thereby combining the lively response of a traditional archtop with the versatility of an electric guitar. Released in 2017 and limited to just 150 pieces worldwide, the Tamio Okuda Signature Edition was created as a tribute to the influential Japanese rock musician and combines the classic construction of the early ES-330 with a Bigsby tailpiece and a distinctive look.Tamio Okuda himself is one of the best-known and most influential Japanese rock musicians of his generation and rose to fame as the singer and guitarist of the hugely successful rock band Unicorn before embarking on an equally successful solo career in the mid-1990s and establishing himself as a songwriter and producer. Okuda is known for his distinctive style—heavily influenced by classic rock, power pop, and American guitar music—as well as his particular fondness for traditional Gibson instruments.Sonically, the guitar impresses with its naturally loud and exceptionally resonant tone. The two Gibson MHS P-90 Dogear single-coil pickups deliver authentic, warm vintage sounds with bell-like highs, woody mids, and remarkably dynamic response. From warm jazz and blues tones to crisp clean sounds and raw, characterful rock tones, this guitar offers tremendous expressive power. The hand-wired electronics with Bumblebee capacitors allow for exceptionally nuanced tone control, while the fully hollow body lends the sound a natural sense of space and liveliness.A sound sample of the model can be found above at the end of the photo gallery. The set mahogany neck with a comfortable Traditional “C” profile delivers a classic Gibson playing feel and harmonizes perfectly with the bound rosewood fingerboard, the 12"-radius, and the 22 low-profile frets. The short 628mm scale length ensures pleasantly relaxed string tension, while the Bigsby B-7 tremolo allows for smooth vibrato effects and underscores the instrument’s authentic vintage character.Visually, this limited-edition ES-330 is an absolute standout. The elegant Classic White high-gloss nitrocellulose finish blends beautifully with the cream-colored bindings, the classic Dogear pickups, and the nickel-plated hardware. The traditional Kluson Deluxe tuners with white oval buttons and the distinctive Bigsby tremolo complete the timeless aesthetic of this rare Gibson signature model.Technical Specifications:Origin: Memphis, TN, USAYear of Manufacture: 2017Limited Edition: #64 of 150Construction: HollowbodyTop/Back/Sides: Maple/Poplar/Maple laminateNeck: Mahogany, setNeck Profile: Traditional “C”Fingerboard: Rosewood with celluloid dot inlays, boundFingerboard radius: 12"Frets: 22, low profileNut: 43.4mm, nylonPickups: 2x Gibson MHS P-90 Dogear singlecoilElectronics: 3-way switch, 2x tone & 2x volume controls; hand-wired with Bumblebee capacitorsTuners: Kluson Deluxe White Oval ButtonBridge: Gibson No Wire ABR with Bigsby B-7 tremoloBindings: Cream, 1-plyFinish: Classic White high-gloss, nitrocelluloseScale length: 628mmWeight: 3.10kgSerial No.: A09403Includes black Gibson Tamio Okuda luxury hardshell case, certificate (C.o.A.)This guitar is in excellent collector’s condition and is technically flawless.
