About this listing
A beautifully preserved example of a late-’50s Gibson archtop, this 1957 Gibson L-7C delivers everything you’d hope for from a golden-era Kalamazoo build — rich acoustic projection, superb balance and that unmistakably dry, woody jazz voice that only decades of ageing can produce.Finished in its original Sunburst lacquer, the maple back and sides are paired with a finely carved spruce top, giving the guitar remarkable clarity and warmth in equal measure. The neck profile is wonderfully comfortable, with the kind of played-in feel that modern instruments simply can’t replicate, while the Brazilian rosewood fretboard adds a smooth, articulate response across the register. The L-7 occupied an important place in Gibson’s post-war line-up, sharing much of its construction DNA with high-end models of the period whilst remaining as a pure acoustic archtop, free from factory electronics. As a result, these guitars have become increasingly sought after by players wanting an authentic late-’50s jazz box with exceptional resonance and dynamic range. This example remains in excellent condition, showing some very minor cosmetic marks to the top consistent with nearly seventy years of careful use (see last 3 pictures). The tuners have been replaced with matching reproduction set - the existing tuners, ferrules and screws are included in the original hard case - three of the existing tuners are missing their buttons which explains why a repro set have been fitted. An inspiring instrument with enormous character — equally at home in jazz, blues and fingerstyle settings — and a superb addition to any serious vintage collection.Shipping within mainland UK using fully insured 24-hour courier service @ £40.00.Customers outside of UK should contact Vintage Rare & Retro Guitars for a shipping quotation.
