Released for the Stratocaster’s 50th anniversary in 2004 , this special American Deluxe model combines classic Fender looks with the more refined, player-focused features of the Deluxe Series. Finished in a beautiful 2-Tone Sunburst , it has a distinctly vintage appearance while offering a much more modern playing experience.
The select alder body is paired with a maple neck featuring a comfortable Modern C profile , rolled fingerboard edges and a 9.5" radius. With 22 medium-jumbo frets, it feels immediately familiar but noticeably smoother and more contemporary than a traditional vintage-spec Strat.
A major part of this anniversary model is its set of Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups , developed to deliver clear Strat character with substantially less background noise. Fender also equipped the guitar with the S-1 switching system , opening up additional series and parallel pickup combinations beyond the standard five Strat positions. It makes this a particularly versatile Strat without taking away from the familiar three-single-coil layout.
The Deluxe treatment continues with staggered locking tuners, a two-point tremolo and gold-plated hardware , while abalone fingerboard dots and the special anniversary details give the guitar a little more visual distinction. The original specification also included a vintage-style tweed case with a commemorative 50th Anniversary interior patch.
What makes this guitar particularly interesting is that it was produced only during Fender’s 2004 50th Anniversary year , making it more than simply another American Deluxe Strat. It represents Fender’s modern interpretation of the Stratocaster at the exact point the model reached its first half-century.
