For the first time ever, PRS Guitars is stepping into the pedal market. The brand's trio of newly released effects include the Horsemeat Transparent Overdrive, Mary Cries Optical Compressor, and Wind Through the Trees Dual Flanger—all designed and made in the U.S.
While the Horsemeat transparent overdrive is inspired by a certain mythical effect we're all familiar with, this circuit brings its own new features to the table—like the unique "voice" knob for adjusting the frequency response of the clipping stage to affect compression and warmth. Driven by germanium diodes, it promises players excellent overdriven signal without coloring your tone and can also be used as a clean boost or to drive your amp's distortion by pushing its preamp section.
If heavy modulation is what you're looking for, the Wind Through the Trees dual analog flanger is the pedal for you. It features two LFOs packed into one enclosure, which can be used independently or mixed together for modulation that sounds like wind whipping through the trees. Each LFO has its own manual depth and rate control for dialing in exactly what you're looking for, whether it's airy harmonics, moody frequency swirls, jet engine sweeps, or fluctuating warbles.
Finally, the Mary Cries is an optical gain reduction circuit that reacts naturally to your playing and is likewise based on a legend: the UA Teletronix LA-2A studio compressor. It's the perfect tool for getting clean boost, subtle string balance, or heavy sustain without squashing your signal.
