Gibson Custom Shop / 2011 SJ-200 Vine

Known as the "King of the Flat Tops," the SJ-200 stands as Gibson's flagship acoustic model. Its story begins in 1937 with the original J-200, a top-of-the-line acoustic guitar custom-built for Hollywood stars including cowboy actor Ray Whitley. Its commanding super-jumbo body and lavish ornamentation made it a symbol for the leading artists of every era since.

This is a special Gibson SJ-200 Vine, uniting that tradition with the very best of Gibson's craftsmanship.

The "Vine" in the model name carries special meaning in acoustic guitar ornamentation. The intricate white mother-of-pearl and abalone shell inlay running from the headstock down the fingerboard evokes a living vine stretching gracefully outward. The classic Tree of Life fingerboard inlay is a testament to the Gibson Custom Shop's masterful inlay work, a tradition carried forward from the golden era of the 1930s.

The top uses carefully selected premium Sitka spruce, with dazzling flame maple for the back and sides - some of the finest premium wood available to the Gibson Custom Shop in 2011, used without compromise.
