2022 Gibson Custom Shop BB KING 1959 ES-335 Live at the Regal Argentine Grey 59 Murphy Lab!

Here is a really cool Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab 1959 ES-335 BB King Signature Reissue in the very unique and desirable Argentine Gray finish. This is one of the more distinctive Murphy Lab models Gibson has produced, featuring pearl dot inlays, a factory Bigsby tremolo, and the clever BB King Varitone circuit that retains a full-output setting while still offering the classic filtered tones.

This guitar is essentially unplayed, having just come in from the original owner, who kept it in a collection. We hesitate to use the term "like new," but it honestly fits here. There aren't even any pick scratches to be found. All of the wear you see is factory Murphy Lab aging, with no additional player wear whatsoever.

It comes complete with the original Murphy Lab hardshell case, matching COA, all of the original case candy, and even the original factory shipping box with matching serial numbers.

One feature we really like on this model is the updated Varitone circuit. Unlike the vintage ES-355 wiring that required a stereo cable for the full-output position, this version works perfectly with a standard mono cable. Position 1 delivers the full, unfiltered sound of both pickups, while positions 2 through 6 provide the classic BB King-inspired tonal variations.

This one plays exceptionally well with a comfortable medium-chunky neck and delivers everything you'd want from a great ES-335—warm, articulate cleans, incredible sustain, and a wonderfully open semi-hollow voice.

Playability & Sound

This one plays beautifully with a comfortable late-'50s style neck carve and excellent setup. Tonally, it has the rich, airy voice you'd expect from a great ES-335, with outstanding clarity and sustain. The updated Varitone circuit is especially useful, allowing you to access the classic filtered sounds in positions 2 through 6 while retaining the full, unfiltered pickup sound in position 1—all through a standard mono cable.
