Beautiful condition, fully functional, no issue Gibson S-1 up for sale. Cosmetically only a few nicks and scratches you would expect from a 47 year old guitar. All electronics tested and work perfect. Gibson's take on a Stratocaster.  Beautiful maple neck with lots of fret wear left. NO headstock cracks or breaks.

The Gibson S-1 is a solid bodied guitar. Only 3,089 of them were sold before the model was discontinued in 1980.

The pickup switch works as follows: Gibson S-1 rotary Switch - F= Front or Neck, C = Centre or Middle, B = Bridge, X = Out of Phase, F - Neck and Middle pups, CB – Bridge and Middle, FCB – Neck Bridge and Middle, FBX – Neck and Bridge Out Of Phase

Comes with OHSC. (Gibson case, black with burgundy interior. A few nicks - but generally in 9.5/10 shape.)

1979 Gibson S‑1 is one of Gibson’s more unusual late‑70s designs—essentially their attempt to blend Fender‑style clarity with Gibson build and feel.

The Gibson S‑1 (produced 1975–1979) is a bolt‑on‑neck, solid‑body guitar featuring:

  • Three single‑coil pickups designed by Bill Lawrence
  • A five‑way rotary switch offering both standard and out‑of‑phase tones
  • A maple neck and fretboard (uncommon for Gibson at the time)
  • A slab-style body typically made of walnut finished maple
  • A feel and response closer to a Strat, but with Gibson’s heavier build and midrange punch

It’s known today as a quirky, collectible oddball—lightweight, bright‑sounding, and very different from Gibson’s usual humbucker‑driven lineup.
