1973 SG Standard
Wefve just received an SG Standard from the transitional period between model changes, featuring a mahogany body, a 3-piece mahogany neck, a high-quality ebony fingerboard, a small pickguard, and escutcheon-mounted pickups.
It is equipped with Super Humbucker pickups. These high-output pickups?known as gTar Backsh due to their backs being filled with black resin?are characterized by a sweet, resonant tone and a wide dynamic range.
Originally finished in Cherry Red, the color has faded over time, giving the guitar a look that has shifted almost entirely to brown.
The degree of fading varies slightly between the top and back of the body, but the original color is still visible beneath the pickguard and escutcheon?a nice touch for fans.
There is a g2h stamp on the back of the headstock, so it is believed to have been sold as a g2NDh grade instrument at the time. The specific details regarding its status as a g2NDh grade instrument are unknown.
Overall, it shows signs of wear appropriate for its age, including numerous scratches, dents, and buckle marks.
There is a crack at the neck joint due to age, but it is only on the surface of the finish and does not extend into the wood.
Additionally, there is faint paint unevenness on the back of the neck that appears to be caused by a stand, but this does not interfere with playing.
Although it was originally equipped with a Large Rectangular Bridge, this has been replaced with an ABR-1 bridge, and the tuning pegs have been replaced with Schaller pegs. * The original parts are missing, and the holes from the peg replacement have been filled.
Unfortunately, the original case is missing, but otherwise, the instrument retains its original condition, including the electronics.
As for the nut and frets, there are some areas with a slight layer of finish, so we believe they are original.
The frets are low, but players accustomed to 1970s Gibson guitars should have no trouble playing it.
Considering its age, itfs in relatively good condition and is a great find that will serve you well for years to come.
