This delay unit has oil in a tuna-can shaped drum that is moved by a belt mechanism that turns the drum while a special disk apparatus on which the audio signal “charge” was written and read through rubber wiper “heads.” The playback speed is directly related to the drum’s rotation speed. The oil acts as a protective layer to keep the audio signal “charge” electrons in place, creating a truly unique echo effect with elements of vibrato and slapback delay.
This unit was gone over by techs and was reported to be in good condition for its age and design.
It works and does the thing - you get that unique sound. It could of course benefit from some TLC as it is old and probably has the original tubes, caps, etc... The output is a little quieter than what you put into it so a tube swap or refurbish may fix that. Due to its age an unique nature, this is sold AS IS.
