The Thunderbird IV: A truly unique instrument in both sound and looks!
The Gibson Thunderbird was first released in 1963.
This highly popular and distinctive body shape was designed by Raymond H. Dietrich, a car designer with experience at Chrysler.
In 1965, the design was changed to a "non-reverse body," but it reverted to a "reverse body" a few years later. Production then ceased in 1969.
In 1976, it was revived as a model commemorating the 200th anniversary of the founding of the United States, and production continued until 1979, before ceasing again.
Then, from 1987 onwards, it evolved and transitioned into the current Thunderbird IV.
This particular 1991 Thunderbird features a 9-ply mahogany and walnut through-neck construction, producing excellent long sustain, and the mahogany body gives it a rich depth in the mid-low frequencies.
It's characterized by a powerful, rounded low-mid range, truly befitting the name "Thunderbird."
While it's certainly not an all-around bass, its unique nuances when played with a pick and its overwhelming presence are irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind charms.
