【MIJ】 Teisco Solid Bass 1968

This is a Teisco "Solid Bass" from around 1968.

Teisco started around 1948.
In 1965, it expanded globally as the export brand "Teisco Del Ray."
It was supported by guitarists specializing in slide guitar, such as Ry Cooder, who composed the music for films like "Crossroads" and "Paris, Texas," and David Lindley.
Teisco was absorbed by Kawai Musical Instruments in December 1966 and became a subsidiary, but continued production as Teisco Trading until 1977, when it ceased operations.

This "Solid Bass" is a rare model that is almost never seen on the market, and there is absolutely no information available about it, including its model name and type.
A few similar examples were found through online searches, and based on the headstock logo design, it appears to be a model released around 1968.
This particular instrument is missing its headstock logo.

This bass is likely an export model, probably produced during the transitional period shortly after Kawai acquired the company.

Both the body and neck appear to be made of maple.
The rosewood fretboard has dot position markers.
There are no position markers on the sides of the fretboard.
It has a short scale length of approximately 780mm and is lightweight.
It has a zero fret.

The pickups are original single-coils, producing a very distinctive and warm sound characteristic of bizarre guitars.
The controls are 2 Volume, 1 Tone.
There are on/off switches for the two pickups, but the rear pickup is constantly sounding due to switch deterioration.

The exterior shows scratches and tarnishing on the metal parts commensurate with its age, but overall it is in very clean condition.
The condition, including the neck, frets, and assembly, has been perfectly set up.
