This is not a standard production pedal, it is an artifact of the innovation from the early days of the boutique pedal market.  Frost Bite #14 is one of the rarest pieces ever to come out of Homebrew Electronics, you don’t see these often, if ever,, and it is priced accordingly.  The buyer for this pedal is not looking for just a classic sounding flanger. They are searching for a story, a piece of boutique pedal history, and a sound that cannot easily be recreated.

THE STORY BEHIND THIS PEDAL

Offered here is a handwired Frost Bite, built personally and given to me by HBE founder Joel Weaver, from an ultra-limited run of only 18 units. If you know HBE, you already understand—these were never mass-produced, never widely distributed, and almost never surface for resale.

This pedal has direct builder-to-owner lineage, which is exceptionally rare in the boutique pedal world. I served as outside counsel to Homebrew Electronics during the early boutique era, and Andrea and Joel  Weaver occasionally gifted me HBE pedals—including this extraordinarily rare Frost Bite analog flanger.

When Joel gave me this pedal he noted that this was one of the few Frost Bite units featuring a special vintage-style analog chip, consistent with the class of bucket-brigade devices (BBD) used in classic collectible flanger circuits. He only had a handful of these chips and used them in the first 18 Frost Bite units in HBE’s initial run, including this one.
