Vintage 1960's Gretsch Model 4157 Brooklyn Era 14x5 8-Lug Snare Drum w/ Case

For your consideration is a vintage Gretsch 14" x 5", 8-lug snare drum in natural finish, likely dating to the 1960s, complete with a vintage hard case.

This drum features the classic Gretsch silver sealer interior and retains its original internal paper tag (serial #00707), both strong indicators of a genuine Brooklyn-era Gretsch shell. While the tag is present, unfortunately the model number is faded and doesn't appear clearly in photos. We have inspected closely and see marks that look like it says "4157" which aligns with models from the time period with the same 6-lug construction. Additionally, with the exterior badge missing, we have to presume the construction, finish, and interior details all point to a period-correct Gretsch intermediate-model snare—commonly associated with models like the 4157.

The drum has clearly been used and modified over the years, making it best suited as a player-grade vintage piece rather than a collector example. The throw-off appears to be a replacement, and there are additional holes in the shell from prior hardware configurations (see photos). The hoops also appear to be non-original. Despite these changes, the shell itself remains structurally solid with only minor cosmetic wear (see photos) and retains that warm, classic Gretsch tone players look for.

Cosmetically, the drum shows expected wear for its age, including finish wear, light scratches, and patina on the hardware. The natural finish has a great vintage look, and the drum still presents well overall.

Included is a vintage hard case, which fits the drum well and provides solid protection for storage or transport. There are foam pads running along the edges of the case that don't appear to be original, but provide a nice padding to the case for shipping and for use upon arrival to its new home. It’s a great bonus that adds practicality and completes the vintage package.
