The Yamaha DX7S is a later version of the Yamaha DX7 with more patch memory and a better MIDI implementation. It also has an improved DAC with 15 bits of resolution instead of the original DX7's 12 bits. The "S" in the same stands for "single-timbre". The DX7IIFD and DX7IID are bi-timbral variants of the DX7S.
