GRECO SA-550 WR (335) - MATSUMOKU JAPAN - VINTAGE 1975 - SEMI-ACOUSTIC - w/HSC

Vintage Greco SA-550 in fabulous condition complete with hard case. Matsumoku craftsmanship of the very highest level.

Greco's highly-collectable 1970s semi-acoustics are uniformly superb in build quality, attention to detail and finishing.

Greco's Matsumoku production between 1974 and 1975 saw a number of transitions, notably the name/spelling change from Gneco to Greco along with various hardware changes.

For example, some 1975 examples sport the older 'Gneco' pickup covers; some have the 'Star' design tuners, and so on. The period also saw the introduction of serial numbers - on the back of the head on the SA models. Since this SA-550 has no serial we can firmly place it at 1974-75.

The pickup stamp also corresponds to 1975 based on Maxon's dating system.

Condition-wise...

This one has been beautifully maintained and appears to be all-original.

Only a few very tiny cosmetic blemishes to the original paint finish on neck, back and sides with the worst being a nick to the back of the neck. No horrid buckle rash, gouges, modifications or repairs. All the bindings - body and neck - are extremely clean.

This lovely lad had a full professional set up a few months ago and hasn't been allowed to play outside the house since. New strings, great fast and low action with good intonation.

Overall...

Exactly 50 years young and still looking like the pure thoroughbred it is. Best of all it plays and sounds even better than it looks.

This super example of a Matsumoku craftsmanship has been a part of our collection for some years now. Time to let it fly elsewhere.

Absolutely gorgeous.

A Note On Shipping:

We want you to be fully satisfied with everything - from the item itself (naturally!) through the shipping, packaging, communication etc.

Of course there is nothing we can do about customs duty, local taxes etc at your end. But we can keep the overall price as competitive as is decently possible.

The Japan post office service (EMS) is reliable and efficient but shipping costs from Japan to Europe or the states are unavoidably expensive.

For this reason none of the shipping costs we quote reflect the actual price we have to pay. We are more than willing to take a hit on that to make things as attractive for you as possible.

Vintage Instruments & Equipment

Shipping by air plus climatic changes can affect how a guitar is set up - no matter how well it is packed. Consequently there is no guarantee that an instrument arrives with exactly the same set up as stated. After a period of acclimatisation, you may still need to make any adjustments at your own expense.
