Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a very nice NOS unused Shure Brothers "Sphere - O - Dyne" DY33SB / 533SB dynamic microphone based on the same 533SA model with high impedance setting. The 533SB was factory set at Low impedance however which is the only difference between the 533SA from this 533SB. This mic was a radical new look for Shure in the early 1960's and a design that closely resembles most modern microphones of today with it's practical design and stick shape.
The mic was never used and has sat in the box since the day it was purchased. Shure renamed the 533SB the DY33SB if it was sold along with other Shure audio equipment which this one was. Apparently the audio equipment was put to use and this mic was simply set aside. No guessing why the mic wasn't used but there isn't a scratch on it and the original cable came without an end connector though a male 1/4 inch connector was included to solder onto the cable. If you need me to install the end connector just let me know and I'll do it for free.
Pic # 2 shows this very model and it's characteristics in an older Shure catalog I have.
The mic was made for about 20 + years and was an affordable "general purpose microphone" that is quite rugged in design and built like a tank. They hold up very well over the decades and this one still sounds like brand new. The mic come with all of it's original accessories.
The omni-directional pattern of this mic allows the user to pick up a bit more sound from a wider area. It does have a dirtier sound so if you are looking for a "rockabilly" sound then this might work well for you. The signal strength is 100%.
The satin chrome body on this mic is perfect as seen in the pictures provided. The chrome mesh screen is free of any dents, odors or tarnish. The on / off switch works perfectly. I'd rate this mic a true 10 on a scale of 1 - 10. They just don't come any nicer than this. I did replace the inner foam pop filter under the screen as it was old and falling apart. The new pop filter should last for another 40 to 50 years.
The plastic mic clip is original to the mic and it fits perfectly allowing a firm grasp and will provide a wide degree of tilt up and down. The clip is in excellent shape and will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have.
The 2 pin cable is included and it's 15 feet in length. It's soft, pliable and just needs an end connector. There is no wear to it.
The Shure mic box is a great place to store and transport the mic when not in use. The box itself shows typical wear but a great accessory to have and has the original foam pads inside providing protection for the contents.
