Formerly owned by Conway Twitty, we are pleased to offer his 1931 OM-18 with incredible presence. Included is a letter to Conway dated 1/15/1975 from legendary luthier Don Teeter that reports on the repair-work he had recently performed on the guitar, and an appraisal from George Gruhn at the time of the guitar's most recent sale. The OM model (first introduced in 1929) initially was designed as a customized 000 model with a shorter body and 14 fret neck (w/ solid peghead) as a solution for bandleader/banjoist Perry Bechtel's transition to guitar as the sun set on the Roaring Twenties. Features a large teardrop pickguard, and original Grover guitar tuners; bridge and bridge plate were replaced (plate first by Teeter to reduce bellying, bridge at time of neck reset), repaired grain related side cracks; normal finish checking and scratching present; original scalloped braces; finish is beautiful and original. Mahogany neck w/ 25.4" scale and 1-3/4" nut, Martin script logo present on peghead overlay, Martin stamp on back of peghead; neck reset from Gruhn. Included in sale in original purple-lined early hardcase w/ double diamond logo on top of case-pocket (cosmetic wear present on case), and newer deluxe, slightly large, hard case.
