Selling a wonderful 1980 Tokai LS-80 Reborn Old. This is the rarest of all the old Tokai’s as the “Reborn Old” moniker was only used for about 6 months in the first half of 1980. In the second half of 1980 they changed it to Love Rock which continues to this day.
This of course is the LS-80 model finished in “Original Sunburst” or “OS”. You can see the 80 stamp at the end of the fretboard. Because it is the high end LS-80 model it contains all the great features these guitars are known for: one piece Honduran mahogany back, 2 piece solid maple top, one piece Honduran mahogany neck, vintage correct 17 degree headstock angle, nickel hardware, fret edge binding, what appears to be a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard (though I can’t say with total assurance), it’s beautiful whatever it is, and Gotoh PAF pickups.
The guitar has a real nice weight of 9.1 lbs and a nice medium 1959 neck profile. The the hardware is of course tarnished as you can see, the back of the neck has some wear and fading from being played, one of the tuners is a bit bent, and there are numerous nicks and dings throughout. Overall it’s in great shape for its age and sounds superb. I replaced the pickup rings as the originals were cracked but are included. I believe the pickguard has been replaced as well. Still has the original circuit board electronics and comes with the brand new molded hard shell case.
Grab yourself a great piece of vintage Japanese luthier history with this Reborn Old!
