Super
rare straight out of Vegas this known instrument belonging to professional
bassist Ed Smith, his all-original 1971 blue metal flake Mustang Bass. This
factory original rarity conforms exactly to the approach and execution of
Fender’s metal flake finish installation process. Unknown to many enthusiasts
whenever Fender painted a guitar with a metal flake color they taped off or
removed paint from the all of the cavities in order to allow room for an
unencumbered final assembly. By the time this guitar was painted Fender was
well versed in this process and the taped cavities now a well-established part
of this painstaking process. By this time in the spirit of CBS Fender also only
painted the top of this instrument metal flake knowing the back didn’t really
matter. When I first looked at the face of the instrument the metal flake
looked factory original, what confirmed it was when I looked at the non-metal
flake but metallic back, it was a color and a look I’ve seen many times. The color
used on the same era competition stripe Mustangs, a metallic color just
slightly darker than Lake Placid Blue, unquestionable Fender, badass. No
modifications or repairs, no cracks or breaks, all original finish and parts. Clean
but played low mileage instrument looks glossy metal parts shinny, some playing
wear on the face some modest buckle wear on the back, cable wear on the lower
edge. Newer hard shell case included. Vintage Gear America specializes in
