Tokai ST-60 "Springy Sound" - early 1978 - low s/n, original hang Tag This is a very clean example of an early Tokai strat-type model. Excellent condition for a 41 year old guitar. Check the Reverb listings for old Tokai strat-style and LP-style guitars to compare pricing and condition.
From the attributes, this particular Tokai is based on a 1954 strat design.
Vintage Tokai guitars are great instruments and have steadily increased in value over the years. This one is priced very reasonably. Save some money. Buy direct from Japan!
- Rare early 1978 production with "narrow neckplate" and "black bobbin pickups". - Weighs 3.6 kg by my digital scale with termolo bar and ashtray cover on - Medium C-shape grip - Frets are polished and are 9/10. See photos for indication of wear. - Truss rod is set for slight relief on bass and treble side. Neck is straight as far as I can tell. Playability is excellent. - Electronics are clean and functional with no particular problems noted - Pickups meter in the low 6k range - Very thin poly finish (see photos to see the wood grain showing through the thin poly). - The hardcase pictured is included. It is period correct but I am not sure if it is early Tokai case. - 2 allen keys included (bridge and neck adjustment), original ashtray - ST-60 stamp is in the neck pocket. Serial number is on the neck and matches the one on the body. - Pickup covers, volume and tone knobs have been replaced but originals included. - Pickguard has some mild warping (typical of old 54 strats with 8 screw design) - An original warranty card came with the guitar. It is period and model correct but it is not original to this guitar as you can see it has been altered at some point in the past. My guess is that like the warranty cards were mixed up when it was originally purchased back in 1978. - RARE Tokai hang tag/decal included. Great value to serious collectors.
Note: there are some light surface scratches in the finish that are hard to photograph. Some buckle rash on the bebel edge just above the tremolo spring cavity on the back.
