1958 DANELECTRO / SILVERTONE U2 GUITAR

Blues Vintage Guitars Inc. is very proud to offer another VERY rare find. This is an ALL ORIGINAL 1958 Danelectro / Silvertone U2 (two pickup model) single cutaway six-string guitar, complete with its original “Coffin Case.” This incredible find is completely original, with no mods, breaks, cracks, or repairs of any kind. The only real blemish on this great guitar is something that has the look of a glue-type liquid spill on the back of the instrument. It looks like it happened many years ago, and it has hardened enough so that it cannot be easily removed. 

This is the rare Silvertone version of the infamous Danelectro U2 model, which was sold exclusively through Sears. The Silvertone trademark was owned and used by Sears and Roebuck from 1941 to 1970. Sears applied the Silvertone name to various products, but mostly to its line of entry-level musical instruments. You can tell definitively that this is a Danelectro U2 by its unique features, including the number and pattern of the screws on the back of the body, the round backplate that covers the electronics, the original lipstick pickups and wooden bridge, and the very distinct shape of the headstock. These guitars are considered quite rare - especially with the coffin case - as most of the ones you see have the more common Danelectro logo on the headstock. 

Overall, it is in VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT condition. You can clearly see the condition of this fabulous and rare guitar in the hi-resolution photos that accompany this listing. Please take the time and take a very close look at this guitar. As stated previously, this guitar model is the Danelectro U2, but is the rare version with the Silvertone logo on the headstock which was sold exclusively through Sears and Roebuck. 

This particular example has seen its share of playing time, as do all great guitars, but it still plays and sounds tremendous, and all the electronics are fully functional without any issues. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with the tone, sound or playability of this wonderful instrument. The guitar is setup and ready to go.
