Up for Sale is a Vintage 1970's Lab Series L5 Amp Head!
Designed By Moog, Built by Gibson! Made In USA!
This is really Cool. You are looking at a Vintage 1970's Lab Series L5 Amp Head. It was made by the Norlin Corporation that owned Gibson the 1970s and 80s. The circuitry was designed at least in part by Bob Moog. They have become known for their fantastic sound, response and versatility. If you Google them you'll see they were used by artists like Ty Tabor, Ronnie Montrose and BB King. They are known for their outstanding Compressor as well as their Reverb.
This L5 was originally a 212 combo that someone cut the cabinet down and made it into a L5 Head. This amp sounds fantastic and replicates the the characteristics of a tube amplifier. The large surface mount Transistors distort the tone just like a tube behaves. The effects loop is after the pre-amp and compressor but before the power amplifier circuit.  This allows you to send signals to a looper through the effects loop with clean tones and then switch to a distorted tone while the looper is playing the clean tones unaffected by the pre-amp tones. Not all amplifiers have the effects loop chain in this position. What I want to talk about is TONE. What does a Lab Series actually SOUND like? Well, a whole heckuva lot like a vintage Fender tube amp, that’s what. So, if like me you like old Fenders, you will like the old Lab series. A few distinctions set the Lab Series apart from a vintage non-master volume blackface Fender: 1) The Lab Series master volume is actually useable, and you can get a nice right-at-breakup tube tone at most any volume. 2) At 100 watts (true RMS) the Lab Series amps can get louder and offer more clean headroom than most vintage Fenders

Cosmetics: Good Condition. Keep in mind that this is a 40+ year old amp, that has been used. There are some Minor Tears, Scuffs and Scratches in the Tolex. All lettering is clear and legible. Very Authentic. Dripping with "Mojo" It is used. Not perfect. Look at the pictures closely. They will tell the story.
