Northfield is known worldwide as one of the most refined and leading names in the mandolin world. Designed with a deep respect for tradition and a keen eye for innovation, these instruments are hand-built by a team of passionate craftspeople. Each model combines superior design with the highest quality materials, resulting in an instrument with exceptional resonance, clarity and balance.

Northfield strives to combine the aesthetic charm and tonal nuances of vintage mandolins with modern playability and precision. With features such as carefully selected solid tonewoods, advanced bracing techniques and perfectly adjusted necks, these mandolins offer a playing experience that inspires even the most demanding musicians.

Operating from two locations, Qingdao, China, and Marshall, Michigan, Northfield combines global craftsmanship to produce world-class mandolins. Founded in China and expanded to the US to meet demand, the company is built on collaboration and innovation, with teams working seamlessly together regardless of location, sharing a passion for quality and creativity.

The Northfield Big Mon pays homage to the legendary mandolins of the early bluegrass pioneers, with a modern twist that delivers outstanding playability and tone. Inspired by the signature style and larger body of the mandolins played by Bill Monroe, the Big Mon offers a powerful, rich and balanced sound that impresses both on stage and in the studio.

With its slightly enlarged F-style body, the Big Mon offers more volume and deeper resonance without sacrificing the clarity and precision of the overtones. It is crafted from carefully selected solid woods, including an Engelmann spruce top and solid maple back and sides, for both an impressive sonic palette and a beauty that speaks of real craftsmanship. The instrument features an extended fingerboard, premium tuners and advanced bracing for optimum projection and sustain.

This mandolin has been carefully inspected for condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.
