The Cloud Microphones JRS-34 draws directly from one of the most influential ribbon microphone designs in recording history. Developed in collaboration with Stephen Sank, the son of renowned RCA microphone engineer Jon R. Sank, the JRS-34 continues the design philosophy of the RCA 44 series while incorporating lessons learned from the Cloud BK-11 and other modern ribbon microphones.

At the heart of the JRS-34 is the same ribbon design used in the original RCA 44 series, preserving the fundamental acoustic character that made these microphones studio classics. Around this proven ribbon element, however, Cloud has redesigned the microphone using modern materials and electronics.

Powerful neodymium magnets provide the magnetic field for the ribbon motor, while a high-quality Cinemag transformer handles signal conversion. Cloud’s active D/C JFET circuitry further brings the classic ribbon concept into a modern studio environment, providing a robust output while retaining the natural response and distinctive character associated with the 44-style ribbon design.

Rather than simply recreating a vintage microphone, the JRS-34 represents the next stage in the RCA 44 and Cloud BK-11 lineage, combining historic ribbon technology with carefully selected contemporary components for professional recording applications.
