About this listing
The Death By Audio Amp Crash is a collaboration between Death By Audio and Rainger FX that puts a real amplifier, speaker and microphone inside a pedal. Rather than simply modelling the response of an amplifier and speaker, Amp Crash uses a genuine 3-watt amplifier to drive an internal 2-inch speaker, which is then captured by its own microphone.
The direct amplifier signal and mic'd speaker sound can be blended together, creating tones that range from relatively clean and edge-of-breakup sounds through saturated overdrive and crushing fuzz to blooming harmonics, feedback and deliberately unstable textures. Because a physical speaker and microphone are part of the signal path, Amp Crash responds with the movement, interaction and unpredictability of an actual miniature amplified system.
Built-in Reverb, Echo and Chorus extend the concept further, allowing the pedal to function as an unusual self-contained sound-design tool as well as an overdrive, fuzz or miniature amplifier. It can be used for recording, experimentation and practice, or integrated into a larger pedalboard for sounds that are difficult to reproduce with conventional effects.
An external 8Ω speaker output also allows the internal amplifier to drive a compatible speaker cabinet, extending the Amp Crash concept beyond its internal speaker.
