Video: Vintage King Adds a Ton of Vintage Gems to Its Reverb Shop

The Vintage King origin story is one of impeccable taste and timing—a trip to the Mecca of pro audio would give two Detroit-based brothers the opportunity to open one of the world's best destinations for recording gear.

What started as a flipping opportunity too good to pass up has blossomed into a robust online presence and two brick-and-mortar stores in Nashville and Los Angeles. No matter the location, Vintage King sells the best of vintage, used, and new gear—and ships worldwide.

In addition, the company runs its Detroit-area Vintage King Tech Shop, where it services vintage and used items. If you're looking for vintage, used, or brand-new microphones, outboard gear, audio interfaces, or anything else related to recording, look to Vintage King.

In our video above, we meet co-founder and CEO Mike Nehra in the Vintage King Tech Shop. Nehra talks about the company's beginnings and just some of the history from the quarter century and more it's been in business. Then, he turns his attention to some of the latest and greatest studio equipment Vintage King has for sale.

As you may expect, Vintage King's collection of pristine microphones is far from lacking. It currently includes a near-consecutive pair of Neumann U 48s, a U 67, and an M49.

This last mic had been owned and used by New York City's Mediasound Studios, a now-closed recording mecca that once played host to T. Rex, Stevie Wonder, and many other leading artists from 1969 through the early '90s.

Pairing these mics with the mic-pres and dynamic processors Vintage King has on hand could bring instant vintage greatness to any studio. For some of his favorites, Mike shows off a Telefunken V76 mic-pre, an assortment of Neve compressors—two 2254s and a 33609 Stereo Compressor—and channel strips like two Neve 1100s and two 31102 mic-pre/EQs.

In addition, Vintage King currently has three classic EMT 140 plate reverb units for sale and a Bill Putnam–made UA 610 console owned and used by Arcade Fire on their latest album.

Mike Nehra also shows off a rare vintage white API console from the 1970s that is owned by Electric Lady Studios. The console is currently at the Vintage King Tech Shop undergoing restoration and will return to the world-class studio upon completion.
