When Elektron retired the Octatrak a while back, the first question on everyone’s mind was “What are they going to replace it with?” Well, we have an answer: the Digitakt.
A dedicated piece of drum machine hardware, the Digitakt also brings in sampling capabilities and much-demanded sequencing functionality to finally sync up with your external gear. Completely digital, the newest entry in the Elektron roster is a marked departure from the company’s analog fixtures with a host of new features to boot.
Streamlined and inviting, the nicely laid-out interface controls eight internal audio tracsk and eight MIDI tracks. Improved backlit buttons and a new OLED screen make for an improved feel and easier navigation as opposed to older LED screens. Plus, with a familiar workflow reminiscent of traditional drum machines, longtime enthusiasts and beginners alike will both be able to jump right in with an easy learning curve.
While specifics on more detailed capabilities is still under wraps, we do know the Digitakt will come packing a multi-mode audio filter and one assignable LFO per track along with onboard delay and reverb. On the functional side, the hybrid drum machine/sampler/sequencer sports MIDI in/out/through, 64MB sample memory and 1GB drive storage, and a stereo input for real time sampling.
With a release date planned for sometime in April and a reported MAP of $650, we’re eager to see what else Elektron has in store for this tiny titan.
