Eastman is a highly regarded instrument maker based in Beijing, China. The company produces guitars, mandolins, violins, violas, cellos, and double basses using carefully seasoned, high-quality tonewoods. Eastman has earned a strong reputation not only in Japan but also throughout Europe.

This is the popular Eastman MD-315E/SB, an F-style mandolin featuring a sophisticated satin finish and a built-in pickup.

Despite its affordable price, the instrument uses solid carved wood for both the top and back, along with an ebony fingerboard, with no compromise in its specifications or construction. Considerable attention has been given to the details of the instrument.

The combination of strong volume and a crisp, articulate attack produces a powerful and dynamic sound. While it is particularly well suited to bluegrass, its versatile tonal character also makes it suitable for jazz, blues, pop, and a variety of other musical styles.

The instrument has been professionally set up at our in-house workshop, including nut and saddle adjustments. We have also replaced the strings with light gauge strings (.009 for the high strings and .034 for the low strings) to further improve playability. It is currently set up very comfortably, allowing the strings to be fretted with minimal effort.

A K&K Duotone contact microphone pickup is installed, providing a natural and realistic amplified sound. Although it is a passive pickup system, it offers relatively high output.

This is an excellent choice for anyone thinking about starting to play mandolin, as well as players looking for a dedicated instrument for live performances.
